Sacred Birth @ the Hospital

Posted on Dec 12, 2014

During some late night research about doulas I stumbled across Alyssa’s website and emailed her for more information. I can honestly say that was one of the best decisions I ever made. Alyssa is one of the nicest, most approachable, and caring people that I have ever met and my husband and I thank our lucky stars that she was part of our birth team. This was my first pregnancy and after doing some research and talking to other moms about their birth experiences, I knew I wanted to try for a natural birth and labor at home as much as possible. When discussing these goals with Alyssa, she always listened very carefully and really helped me to feel justified in my decisions. I really liked that Alyssa was willing to meet with us more than the standard one or two meetings that most doulas incorporate into their fees. We met with Alyssa no less than four times before our delivery and each time she coached us on various topics which really allowed us to go into the final stages of my pregnancy feeling educated and prepared. When it came time for the actual labor and delivery, Alyssa was absolutely amazing, staying with my husband and me for more than 10 hours until my daughter was born. With her help and coaching, I was able to labor in the peace and quiet of my own home, arriving at the hospital fully dilated, just in time to deliver my daughter naturally which had been my goal all along. She stopped by the hospital later in the day to check on us and even brought us lunch from Whole Foods! She was also a huge help with breastfeeding and worked with me on getting my daughter to latch properly, both at the hospital and at a later postpartum visit. I highly recommend Alyssa as a doula. I honestly don’t think my birth experience would have been nearly as pleasant and memorable without Alyssa’s involvement. As I look to my future with hopes of a having a second child, I know that Alyssa will be an integral part of my plans. – Desiree Moss  ...

Birth of Mila Ferro <3

Birth of Mila Ferro

I recommend ANY expecting mama to have the assistance of a doula. We had no idea how important Alyssa was going to be during our birth experience. I met her through prenatal yoga class, as she was the instructor. I was intrigued by her expertise and gentleness. After researching her site, and shared who she was with my partner, Ryan. We agreed to do prenatal classes with her. She was wonderful, tailoring the syllabus to meet our needs. We had individualized classes for more attention, and she came to us so we could remain in the comfort of our own home. We learned valuable information that we used the very day of my labor. On March 5, I had my first true contractions at 3:30 in the morning, and by 5:30am, the contractions were about 5-7 minutes apart. We called Alyssa, and she came to our home, helped me and my family into the car so we could depart for the hospital. Upon our arrival, she followed me into the examining room, where we found that I was 7 cm dilated, and 90% effaced. My water broke, and we knew the baby was coming! I was transferred to the labor & delivery room and for several hours, I worked. With Alyssa’s assistance, I got through each contraction one breath at a time. When the baby got lodged in my pelvis I wanted an epidural, Alyssa recentered me. She reminded me of our plan and told me to stick with it just one more hour. She recommended the pelvic lift which we learned about in our prenatal class, and we all agreed on to give it a try. My partner came behind me and lifting my stomach during contractions. This technique dislodged the baby and made me a full 10cm within minutes. I began pushing shortly after and within the hour, Mila Lynne was born! If it were not for Alyssa we would not have had a sound, uncomplicated, healthy and natural birth. We owe so much to Alyssa for a beautiful birthday that we will never forget. I encourage you to make the same choice!       – Evelyn...

Love for our Doula

Posted on Dec 12, 2014

Our experience with Alyssa was really outstanding. She not only educated my husband and I and acted as pillar of support during labor & delivery, but she also cultivated a friendship with us that we truly cherish. My husband was skeptical about hiring a doula, since he had never heard of the role before and thought it was kind of a scam job seeing as both his parents are physicians. After our experience with Alyssa, he holds a strong stance that every birth, ESPECIALLY hospital births, should be supported by a doula. I wanted a natural birth, and I got it thanks to her support. But honestly, I agree with my husband, that Alyssa would have been an integral role in our experience at the hospital even if I had planned to have an epidural or C-section. She really helped us navigate through our entire experience and we are forever grateful. -Lisa...

Transfer at 32 weeks!

Posted on Oct 3, 2014

I decided to see Michelle late in my pregnancy, I was about 32 weeks.  It was a last minute decision, but one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!  Michelle is such a caring person.  I’m so thankful I had her through this!  The week before I had my son I had prodromal labor every day I would get contractions that would lead to nothing.  It was exhausting not only physically, but emotionally.  The day before I gave birth I had my 38 week check up with Michelle.  She knew what I’ve been going through and knew I was exhausted.  That’s when I had a heart to heart with her and I just CRIED AND CRIED!  She sat there with me and listened and gave me great advice.  I think the visit went from 1:45 till almost 3pm! (You don’t get that at an obgyn office) and she sat there with me!  After that I felt amazing like a HUGE weight was off my shoulders.  The next day I woke up from the BEST sleep I’ve had my entire pregnancy.  Everything was normal till about 3pm when I started feeling some mild contractions 2-3min apart.  I didn’t think too much since I had been dealing with this for a whole week!  But then at 4pm they got extremely intense and let Michelle know she arrived and helped me through it.  I don’t know if I could have done it without her by my side coaching me through it all.  By 9:26pm my beautiful son was born.  I wish I had the words to describe how it felt to catch my own son and watch him take his first breath in my hands.  Simply incredible.  I wish all the mommies could have Michelle by their side through this, she is such an amazing and caring person. -Maribel Jimenez (mom of...

“She’s got this beautiful aura.  As soon as you meet her you can see how sweet and kind of a person she is.  She was there with me at the beginning of my labor, she supported and encouraged me.” -R.N
